what's on the horizon...

This is an art blog where I will be adding new drawings and paintings of Hula girls and Tiki Gods every week, sometimes more, along with related videos, Hawaiiana and tons of Tiki trivia. So crack open a cold one and enjoy the show.

"Hau' Oli Makahiki Ho" ( Happy New Year, in Hawaiian )

"HAU' OLI MAKAHIKI HO"  MEANS  "HAPPY NEW YEAR"  IN HAWAIIAN.
THE "MAKAHIKI"  IN HAWAIIAN HISTORY WAS A FOUR MONTH TIME OF PEACE AND PROSPERITY, WHEN WAR WAS 'KAPU' ( FORBIDDEN ) AND WORK WAS MEANT TO BE LIGHT.  IT WAS A TIME FOR CELEBRATING THE HARVEST AND "LONO" THE HAWAIIAN TIKI GOD OF FERTILITY AND RAIN.  TODAY THE MAKAHIKI IS STILL CELEBRATED WITH FESTIVALS APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN THE MONTHS OF OCTOBER TO FEBRUARY.
